Without A Walk In Clinic Tampa Patients Often Get No Medical Treatment At All

by Christine Snyder

It is only natural that people want the best possible medical care when they sustain injuries or when the fall ill. Sadly, very few people can afford such medical help. The fees charged by hospitals, doctors and other medical specialists are totally out of reach of the vast majority of people unless they have medical insurance. The vast number of poor people does not have medical insurance and without the services of a walk in clinic Tampa patients will be deprived of any care.

These clinics can be found all over the United States. There are thousands of them distributed over nine thousand regions. Many are run by pharmacies that operate in malls. Others are run by churches and charity organizations and there are even a few that are run by the local authorities in specific regions. Most of them treat patients free of charge and the rest charge only a very small fee.

The treatment offered by these clinics differs wildly. Some only deal with emergencies while others concentrate on the treatment of pregnant women and children. Others offer a wider range of services, especially those managed by pharmacies. One thing that they do have in common is that none of them offer advanced medical treatment and none of them can house in patients that need constant care.

Despite the limited services offered by clinics they remain extremely popular. After all, what choice does one have when there is no money to pay a private doctor or hospital. Many patients to these clinics go there because they are not asked any questions about where they come from, whether they have citizenship or what their personal backgrounds are.

Clinics have many critics. They agree that the clinics perform a vital role in matters related to primary health care but they criticize the fact that the level of service offered remains at a very basic level. They also criticize the fact that patients have to join long queues and wait hours before being seen. This overload of patients means that those attending them do not have sufficient time to spend with each patient.

The fact that very few patients ever see a doctor is also a point of contention. The vast majority of clinics have no permanent doctor and many others only have doctors for an hour or two a week. This means that the majority of patients are treated symptomatically. Nurses are not trained to make diagnoses and they are not allowed to prescribe scheduled medication.

Detractors also say that all doctors and specialists rely heavily on the medical history of the patients that the see. Without knowing what medication the patient used in the past, whether he has allergies or latent conditions such as diabetes and hypertension it is often very difficult to make an informed and accurate diagnosis. Clinics do not keep medical histories of the patients that they treat.

Critics may have a point when they say that these clinics cannot provide proper medical care. The reality, however, is that the vast majority of patients visiting these clinics have nowhere else to turn for medical help. At least the clinics can help to alleviate painful symptoms and to provide basic treatment.
