Advice On Applying Home Ingredients Such As Olive Oil For Vaginal Thrush

by Rachel Scott

Most women experience thrush at one time or other, some have recurrent bouts. The infection is yeast related and is due to an increase in a type of fungus that is naturally located in the vulva area. The symptoms of this infection include itching and soreness, swelling and a white discharge. Whilst treatments can be purchased to treat this infection they can be quite expensive and sometimes lead to side effects. An effective alternative treatment is to use home remedies to clear the infection. Many people find, for example, that using olive oil for vaginal thrush brings about very quick and effective results.

It is generally recommended that women should consult a doctor when experiencing a yeast infection for the first time so that a proper diagnosis can be made. The vast majority of yeast infections are caused by a type of fungus known as Candida Albicans. It is reported that around fifty per cent of women have Candida naturally present without it causing any symptoms.

Yeast infections are thought to be caused by a change in the natural conditions of the vagina. This altering of conditions can lead to an explosion in the growth of Candida that causes the symptoms of this condition. Reasons for the change could be chemical related, taking antibiotics sometimes affects conditions. Alternatively it might be caused by hormonal changes in the body, perhaps as a result of pregnancy or the menopause.

There are a number of home remedies that are thought to be extremely effective at clearing this infection. Olive oils have acids with anti fungal elements that can help to stop the supply of oxygen to the yeast. Women often decide to combine them with tea tree oil for its antibacterial and anti fungal properties.

Mixing these two natural ingredients together helps to water down the tea tree which can be quite strong. Women often apply olive oil around the vulva area as a way of calming and reliving irritation caused by this type of infection. Tampons can be immersed in this oil before adding a small amount of tea tree and putting into the vagina. The two ingredients can also be mixed together and applied to the area two times a day.

Another home treatment is inserting a clove of garlic into the vagina and leaving it in for a few hours. Garlic has a long history of being used to treat yeast infections. It can be dipped into extra virgin oils before being inserted as garlic is quite a concentrated ingredient.

There a many simple treatments that women can use to successfully clear the infection. These are naturally ingredients and unlikely to give side effects. The items used in these home treatments, such as olive oil for vaginal thrush are easily available thus avoiding an expensive trip to the pharmacist for an over the counter treatment.
