Vital Information Parents Should Know Regarding Natural Treatments For Baby Eczema

by Alma Reed

A skin rash of any type can make your newborn very uncomfortable. Fortunately, natural treatments for baby eczema often help parents of children who suffer. These treatments provide relief of the problem or can make it a little more bearable.

Many parents learn very quickly to avoid products that are overly perfumed. The best products are hypoallergenic and unscented. Even products formulated for babies that have the scent often associated with a new born may cause the skin problem to become worse. It is best to avoid these products whenever possible.

Be cautious about changing to a new brand or scent of anything. If you have a laundry detergent that works and is labeled as hypoallergenic, do not assume any hypoallergenic detergent will work. With manufacturers constantly changing and improving products, this can be difficult. If you notice that stores are replacing something that works with the child with a new and improved product, be sure to stock up on the old product that works.

Do not bathe the child on a daily basis. Most babies do fine with every other day baths and this practice can preserve essential skin oils while limiting exposure to soaps that may make the condition even worse.

Use oatmeal in the bath instead of soaps. Place a quarter of a cup of raw oatmeal in the toe of an old sock and use to wash the child. Oatmeal has a natural soothing quality and can help when outbreaks occur.

Bleach added to bath water in small amounts can help to solve the child's problem. The ratio is very small, such as one quarter cup per twenty gallons of water. It is important that children not ingest bleach water. Water should remain lukewarm during the bath to prevent drying of the child's skin. After bathing, be sure to apply a moisturizer.

Sometimes home remedies fail and parents will need to resort to Hydrocortisone or other medication to provide relief to the child. If the medications available over the counter do not work, speak with a doctor about a prescription for a better quality medication. The doctor may provide one or more medications to help the child to feel better.

Skin conditions can be very irritating to babies. If the irritation becomes itchy and painful, natural treatments for baby eczema are often helpful. In particular, parents may benefit from learning the best ways to prevent the skin problem from developing.
